The image today is a wet area between our cabin and the Zig Zag River. Usually, we do our best to hop a few rocks on the way to river and rarely take the time to examine just how beautiful and green this little tributary is, but today I did!
If I go back to my childhood and search my memories for the dream, perhaps there is one that still is alive and kicking today. I wanted to be an explorer like Lewis & Clark and travel the world in search of great adventures.
One of the highlights of Costa Rica was visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, an 810 acre oasis of very dense greenery. The place we visited had a bunch of hanging bridges that made it possible to peer into the canopy of the forest.
Normally this time of year we have done our share of skiing, but due to limited snow on Mt. Hood we have not skied once as a family. I did give it a try a couple of weeks ago, but on the one and only run I did it poured rain.
Just a few minutes’ drive from the cabin is the trail head for Little Zig Zag Falls. It’s probably our number one spot for taking visitors to the cabin because it is only a half-mile hike along a picturess river with a huge pay off at the end – the falls!
Just minutes from our cabin door is this amazing patch of the woods where the entire ground is covered in luscious moss. Every time we pass through it I feel like I am in some fairy wonderland. I am just waiting for some winged little creature to come flying by and wish me a nice day!
